Rhythm or Harmony

There is a lot of rhythm in this song through the instruments. The instruments and the beat of this tune just get a person to start to sway back and forth. It is a very relaxing peace in that manner. If a person ever listened to George Straight that is the kind of music, he plays. The Rhythm begins to be more upbeat once the chorus comes in.

During the chorus, you begin to hear some harmonization as well. A female and male vocalist come in the background and begin to harmonize with George’s voice. Harmonization is one of my favorite parts of music. That is, if it is done correctly. If it is, the music can be so pleasing to the ear, and this song does a great job of it.

Joey Alexander

This kid will become and is becoming right now, an absolute prodigy. He is only 12 years old and he is already surpassing crazy amounts of talented musician. I actually happened to watch this 60 minutes when it came out on tv. This isn’t just some normal kid. This is what you call a God given talent, and he is so special. He has only been playing for 6 years and he is already writing songs that are sensational. His intelligence around jazz is remarkable as well. He has such a high IQ for music. Ive never met a kid like this and this kid will go down in history. His improvisation during his pieces expresses how much he knows about Jazz and music.

Mozart

Mozart is a very interesting musician. He was one of the most famous musicians of his age, and his father traveled all around Europe to have him perform. Seeing all the places he has gone is very intriguing. My girlfriend is from Prague, Czech Republic so going back there over christmas, i was very fortunate enough to see the famous Prague Theatre and a couple other famous places where Mozart has been known for in Prague. Knowing he grew up in Austria makes sense why he is so famous in Prague because of how close they are.

I found some of my information on Encyclopedia Brittanica which has very good information about Mozart. Mozart really did excel in every genre of music while he was in Vienna. Vienna is the Broadway of Europe and he really began to grow once he went over there.

Vibrato

I enjoy the second example a lot more. Seasons of Love is such a fun piece and that is more my style than opera singing. Now opera singing is absolutely amazing, and the vibrator is very stout and piercing. The second peace is more of a subtle vibrato, but I love how much they can control their vibrato as well.

For the music I listen to it depends on the genre, If I am listening to some gospel music or some high vocalist music, I can definitely hear the vibrator a lot more, rather than rap or something of that nature where there basically is none.

Dynamics and Timbre

There isn’t too much of a change in dynamics in this piece. The volume is mostly steady until it gets to the melody. When the melody hits, that is when it begins to start to change in dynamics. The melody is the heart of the song and that being said, George Strait really wanted his listeners to understand the meaning of this song, so that is why he made the melody much louder. I wouldn’t say it makes the piece more interesting to me than it did before, but I do see what the producer and George Straight are trying to get out of the song when they change dynamics. The change in dynamics flows really well together in this song as well.

The timbre of this song isn’t drastic either I would say. The main timbre of this song is the guitar and there is a decent amount of change when the guitars goes through the song. It is very subtle as well in this aspect but very interesting when I began to look for it in the piece.

Word Painting

The piece of music i chose does not have a ton of word relationship to the music, but there is one significant part where i do see this at. When George Strait says “Check Yes or No” the note goes from high on Yes to a lower note on No because the girl in the song would definitely want him to say yes over no. That was what i found in the piece of music i chose.

The Cricket and IL est bel et bon

These two pieces were very interesting for me to listen to. I haven’t heard anything like these pieces were, but i did enjoy it. The word painting really did assist me in how interpreted the music. Also knowing a little background about the song helped as well.

With IL est bel et bon, knowing that it was a bunch of women speaking back and forth about their husbands was very amusing to me. I really enjoyed the piece knowing what it was about. It definitely made me laugh a little.

The Cricket was a little harder for me to know what it was interpreting. Once i knew that it was trying to interpret a Cricket. Since i was not able to watch the performance and only listen, that also hindered it a little. Being able to watch The King’s Singers perform helped a significant amount compared to The Cricket.

Check Yes or No

This piece by George Strait is one of my favorites of all time. The relaxing tone behind this piece sets myself in the right mood all the time. The melody of this piece is consistent throughout this whole song. The melody stay in the higher range and at the end of every line it bounces up to a higher note when he says “Me” or “Be”. Then it goes back to the original phrases to end the melody. Then additional phrases come in to break up the melody to tell the story that this song is telling. The melody is like the the message he wants to get across in the song while the phrases that break up the melody are the detailed descriptions that assist him to get the message across.

For most of this song, the texture is homophonic. The multiple guitars or instruments are the background part while George Strait is the soloist but the work hand in hand and become one throughout the song. The instruments in the background really compliment George Strait’s voice and make everything flow together smoothly.

The Cricket & Eagle Dance

The Eagle dance was not very pleasing to my ear. The tone of this piece and the vocal quality was very flat. It did not seem to go anywhere and the beat was not as entertaining to me. This is not something any of us are used to listening to. The dancers do help me with the beat and the rhythm of the song but i am still not too much of a fan of this piece.

On the other hand. I really enjoyed the video of Bobby Mcferrin. I believe there was so much more rhythm behind this piece and his tone was way sharper than the Eagle dance i believe. The vocables in this piece were way more pleasant to listen to than the other piece. I also love how he put his own spin on it compared to just doing what he was supposed to. Getting the crowd involved was also so pleasant to listen to.

Star Wars

These two pieces of music from the Star Wars movies are so iconic. The song of Princess Leia is such a peaceful and relaxing tune. This melody gives me such a peace of mind and happiness knowing the scenes around this song. Melody is such an impactful part of these pieces because of the structure that needs to be behind the song. The melody builds the foundation of the scene and keeps people or viewers focused throughout the scene.

Darth Vader’s March on the other hand makes me very anxious, and there is a bunch of suspense wrapped around this song. The melody here is very upbeat and lively, making you feel as if something bad is about to happen. The melody gives you a key assurance that is person is the bad guy in the movie, knowing how suspenseful and dark this song is.

Hildergard’s music is something that i enjoy as well just because of the history and the smoothness of it. I love hearing this sort of music and i can appreciate both kinds of pieces in this blog.
